Villa Donostia

Located on the beachfront, Ondarreta is a distinctive neighborhood known for its small scale and the stylistic diversity of its villas. Historically characterized by garden-filled plots, many of these voids have gradually been built over.

In a privileged position, Villa Donostia sits on a plot that allows for the expansion of its volume, transforming it into a multi-family residential building with six units. The project embraces a dialogue between the contemporary and the historical, echoing the architectural richness of the area.

The villa’s protected façades are preserved with care, while a third is reconstructed to retain the original volume as seen from the street. The new addition is set back and separated from the original structure, creating a play of volumes that respects the scale of the historic villa. This approach evokes the memory of the neighborhood’s former garden spaces.

By reinterpreting the eaves, buttresses, and base of the original villa, the extension adopts a contemporary yet contextual language, aiming to contribute to the area’s architectural diversity and to stand as a piece of future heritage through quality materials and detailing.
