Villa Donostia
Located facing the bay, on the seafront, Villa Donostia occupies a privileged position in the heart of the Ondarreta district. Defined by its domestic scale and by the diversity of the villas that compose it, the neighbourhood was once marked by the presence of gardens and open spaces, gradually transformed over time. The project converts the existing villa into a residential building with six apartments, establishing a careful dialogue between heritage and contemporary intervention.
The protected façades are preserved with the utmost respect, while a third façade is reconstructed in order to maintain the reading of the original volume from the Ondarreta seafront. Set back from the existing building, the extension reduces its impact and preserves the perception of the original villa’s scale. Through a reinterpretation of the roof overhangs, buttresses and plinths, the project develops a precise and contextual contemporary language, shaped by careful attention to materials and construction details, with the ambition of contributing to the future heritage of the neighbourhood.
